Thanks Again

As you can see, the “Hymned Again” takeover has officially come to an end. I cannot put into words how grateful I am for all of you. Your support has been extremely overwhelming. We will not know how many albums we actually sold for a couple of days, so I am not able to tell you how much was raised for “Imagine A Cure,” but please understand, my family is already humbled by how much all of you care about my son Sam. When the album first released, I blogged about how there was a price mix up on iTunes, and I offered the chance to download some of my music for free in case there was any inconvenience.

Well, I would now like to offer the same thing just to say thank you! Because of your amazing support for, not just “Hymned Again” but for my son as well, you can now download 4 songs from my first Hymned album for absolutely free. I know it’s not much but it’s the least I could do. All you need to do is email and you will receive downloading instructions. It is extremely rare to get a record label’s permission to give music away, but our label, INO records, has been completely supportive from the get go.

So tell everyone you know! Post it on your blog, text someone about it, call your friends etc. And tell them there is free music available with absolutely no catch whatsoever. Once again, simply email and you will receive instructions on how to download 4 songs from “Hymned no. 1.” Thank you so much for being the greatest fans ever! You make being on the road and away from home so much easier to bear. I pray that God blesses each and every one of you.

Ps. Oh and I promise more cover tune grab bags are on their way very, very soon. In the meantime, here is a video that we later decided needed to be declared an official “grab bag.”

What Others Are Saying

Hey everyone.  Today’s the day.  The release of “Hymned Again” and it’s already number 6 on iTunes.  You guys are awesome!  Thank you for supporting this.  Here are a few of the reviews that I was just sent from some other folks out there.

**** (4 out of 5 stars)
“… excellent and one of the better hymn albums you’ll find. Millard sounds great as usual, Bannister’s production is typically flawless, and the recording is teeming with great musicianship…….I just hope it’s not the last, because there are too many beloved church standards and too many creative ways to perform them for Millard to wrap up a series with so much potential, or for that matter, to repeat himself musically from one Hymned to another.” –
**** (4 stars)
“Shuffling through 10 historic gems and one original tune, Hymned Again is a dazzling departure from MercyMe’s more pensive pop/rock fare. Flinging the door wide open for interpretation, Hymned Again brilliantly stylizes its classic catalog with western swing, brassy big band, finger pickin’ Dixieland, simple acoustic and waltzy blues and jazz… Hymned Again is an unusual and oh so wonderful blend of melody, music and history that is unfortunately rare in today’s capitalistic musical commerce.” –
“…a diversified smorgasboard offering the listener New Orleans influenced horn-driven jazz to Texas blue-rock guitar to bluegrass to… country. ” –

“With Hymned Again, you realize that MercyMe frontman Bart Millard isn’t the least bit trendy, but he is determined to minister. It makes all the difference in the Spirit you feel through the songs… Millard makes most of these hymns memorable enough to ring in your heart as they sing through your head days later.” – Everyday Woman

“The musical styles on this collection may not appeal to everyone, but those who have a fondness for church classics or folk, country or blues music will surely enjoy this album. Warning: Spontaneous swaying, toe-tapping or head-bobbing likely to occur while being Hymned Again.” – Charisma

“A real treat for those of us longing for honest, organic music.” – Journal of Student Ministries

“There is a lot that is notable about Millard’s hymnal projects. First the song selection, Millard likes to pick old classics that are near and dear to his heart… The hymns are rearranged but they still hold a nostalgic significance of a traditional church service. The new arrangements take on a zesty New Orleans sound and Millard’s voice is in perfect form.” – Alpha Omega

While MercyMe is one of the best at bringing massive worship anthems to the church, Bart Millard’s, “Hymned Again” is a collection of 12 old school hymns set to a musical background that at times makes me feel like I’m walking through the French Quarter of New Orleans about 60 years ago. I personally loved the track, “Jesus Cares For Me”. The guitars are so beautiful I wanted to cry. – Phil Wickham

Leave your review in the comments.  I’d love to know what you think.  Thanks for your continued support.

Hey everybody, we just wanted to let you know that Bart Millard’s “Hymned Again” is finally here! We believe that hymns are a huge part of who we are as the body of Christ, and with churches not singing them as much as they used to, we don’t want them to fade into nothing. So we are excited to support Bart’s hymns projects.

Not only are you buying a great record, but you are truly making a difference in the lives of others. With every purchase of “Hymned Again” on itunes, a portion of the proceeds will go to “Imagine A Cure.” An organization Bart started to find a cure for juvenile diabetes. Because all of us in the band are like brothers, when Bart’s son, Samuel, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, it impacted each of us greatly. WE WANT TO FIND A CURE FOR SAM! So please, please consider buying Bart Millard’s “Hymned Again” on iTunes or at your local christian bookstore. You won’t be disappointed.

God Bless,

“Hymned Again”

Hello SLOBland!

Well it’s getting closer and closer to the release of my solo record “Hymned Again.” So I thought I would answer a few questions I have been asked throughout the making of this record.

1. Why a solo record? Why is it not a MercyMe record?

When you hear it, hopefully it will be clear why it is not MercyMe. I grew up listening to everything from Louis Prima to Willie Nelson, and it certainly shows on this project. Plus MercyMe demands too much in the studio like fruit only cut up in 2 inch triangles, Enya music always playing between takes and, whenever you address them, it has to start with “Your awesomness…” typical band stuff.

2. Why “Hymned Again?”

Because “Hymned-da-dee-doo-da” sounded funny.

3. What is your favorite moment on the record?

I would have to say the duet with Vince Gill on “Jesus Cares For Me.” Apparently he is trying to make it in the music biz, and was looking for a big break. I’ve got your back Vinnie. Keep your chin up! You sir are going places!

4. Is it true that my life will instantly have joy and meaning as soon as I purchase “Hymned Again?”

Well I can’t say 100% yes, but 4 out of 5 doctors have agreed that “Hymned Again” combined with flossing does make a substantial difference in one’s purpose for living.

5. Are the guys in the band cool with you using MercyMe’s blog to push your solo album?

Nope. In fact, I have been on the run for the past month tapping into the blog any chance I can get, for just a few seconds at a time, so that I cannot be traced. My goal is a “Hymned Again” blog takeover the week of the release…and then…take over THE WORLD!!!!!

6. What can we do to help in your world domination?

Assuming that asking everyone to wear a shirt that says “Bart is the King of Awesometown”, and from now on, greet each other by humming the first few bars of “I Can Only Imagine” is too much, I guess just buy “Hymned Again” the day it releases which is August 19th. Also contact your local Christian radio station and request the first single off “Hymned Again” titled “I Stand Amazed.”

So there you have it. Inquiring minds want to know! Please be sure to check out the brand new to pre-order an autographed copy of “Hymned Again” today.

Thank you for your time and keep “Hymned” alive!

Hymned Again

NASHVILLE, TN – In follow up to HYMNED, MercyMe frontman Bart Millard’s 2005 solo project, named one of Billboard and’s Top Ten albums of 2005, comes his second effort, HYMNED AGAIN, which will hit nationwide on August 19th. The first single to be serviced to AC and Inspo radio formats will be “I Stand Amazed,” on July 4th, which features guest vocals by Christy Nockels.

Taking the production helm once again is Brown Bannister, who along with Millard’s passionate vocals and a famed line up of studio musicians, has created an impressive and diversified musical landscape on HYMNED AGAIN. Raised in East Texas relatively close to where many musical styles originated, Millard wanted to create an authentic sound with these old hymns, most of which date back to the 1800s and talk about sharing one’s faith during this era when evangelism was on the rise. Therefore, HYMNED AGAIN runs the stylistic gamut from New Orleans style horn-driven jazz to Texas blues-rock guitar, and country/bluegrass to banjo-featuring Dixieland, ’70s soul/gospel flavor, and one song centered on nothing more than a ukulele.

To top it off, the sole original track on the CD, written by Millard and Thad Cockrell, “Jesus Cares for Me,” features a duet with country superstar Vince Gill. “The one thing I’ve been looking to do is sing with Bart and check that off my Bucket List.” laughed Gill, who had some fun with Millard in the recording studio with his ‘Bucket List,’ video from which is featured on MercyMe’s blog page.  All kidding aside, the duet is surely a dream come true for Millard, who states, “I never imagined I would sing a duet with Vince Gill, and especially that it would be on one of my records. It was truly an incredible ‘pinch myself’ moment.”

While HYMNED was inspired by Millard’s grandmother, and the hymns she used to sing, HYMNED AGAIN was inspired moreso by his three kids. “My three kids know every word of the first hymns record I did,” he says. “These are songs that were a huge part of my upbringing, and now they are a part of my kids’ as well, so I had to do another one! And, true to form, they already have the new album memorized too.”
Millard is currently touring a full summer schedule with MercyMe supporting their latest hit project, ALL THAT IS WITHIN ME. The band will be touring this fall as well, dates for which are available on Millard also just taped a special HYMNED AGAIN episode of the Gospel Music Channel’s Kitchen Sink program which is scheduled to air on September 27th.
