So I’m married to a very kind, patient, and tenderhearted woman. Abby doesn’t have the heart to watch any of God’s poor little creatures suffer, (also known as a hippie.) Well, just the other morning, while we were flying home from Phoenix, she calls me to let me know that a baby bird had been pushed out of the nest. So instead of leaving this poor little bird at the mercy of Suki, our cat, Abby decided we needed to become Barn Swallow rescue center. So now I get to feed a baby bird ground up dog food about 6 times a day….booooo.
So now I’d like to introduce you all to Housey. That’s the name Ben gave the bird when Abby asked what we should name it, whilst he peered out the car window and looked at a neighborhood….heeeeeeere’s Housey!!!

Well, I’m a fellow hippie. That’s a great lesson you’re showing your kids. Good for you guys. Good luck with it.
Awwww. That’s sweet. I hope Housey does well and is able to take flight real soon (for both your sakes).

(psssst- hey SLOBS- I think we’ve got Mike here hooked on Bloggin’!)
Mike: Don’t let your wife read this. But before I read what you wrote I thought that was poop in a blanket.
LOL!
Housey is a great name. Don’t you love how God surprises us with His creation? We have a baby mockingbird hopping around our yard lately, it’s fascinating to see it try to fly and see how momma bird protects it. I’m reminded how God cares for the sparrows and how much more He cares for you and me….and Housey too!
Awwwww! Last night I was heading into the house when I noticed my cat was working on something very large. Turns out it was a bird…well…by the time I saw it, it was only about half a bird!
I was so mad at her!
Me too Heidi! I couldn’t understand what you might be doing to it with that needle.
I’m still kind of grossed out. But good for you guys. That’s very “birds of a feather flock together” of you.
Good luck!
I thought the same thing as Heidi,(read in a fake British accent, Ala Austin Powers) That’s not a bird, that’s poop! I actually think it was kind of mean of her to deprive your cat of a nice little snack. Maybe the mom bird pushed it out of the nest for a reason. Maybe aliens took over the baby birds body and the mom did a selfless act to save the world, and now your family is endangering us all. Thanks a lot for allowing the aliens to take over the world Mike!
Ha! Good on ya, Mike! My family has done our fair share of Operation Rescue endeavors, and they almost always end up very rewarding. Your son will have a vague and fond memory of helping a helpless creature and your wifey will have the satisfaction of a job well done.
looks like fried chicken…..or…bird.
Abby and I would get a long great because I am a hippie too. I love all animals and I will do what I can to help the ones in need. I get upset just watchng the commercial that Sarah McLachlan did for the ASPCA and I rarely watch the news for fear of hearing about an abused animal.
This is a great lesson for your kids to see how we should help care for God’s creatures.
Oh hey, don’t forget… birds carry salmonella. Yeah, hand sanitizer.
You’re welcome, my friend.
LOL to Jen and James!!
You all will be sad to know, that this morning, we lost little Housey. I however, am not too heart broken about it. While I would have loved to see the little booger make it, I know that it was meant to be. Condolences may be sent to the MM blog….thanks for your concerns.
And James…How dare you accuse this poor defenseless little bird of trying to take over mankind. You should be ashamed of yourself.
mike
Mike, let me be the first to extend my condolences to you and your family concerning your loss. And just so you know, I am ashamed of accusing your bird of heinous acts against humanity, but mostly I’m relieved, relieved that the aliens wont be taking over the world.
Much love to you and your family.
My sympathies to the Scheuchzer family during this difficult time. I, too, lost a beloved backyard baby buddy–a mole who had no name. God rest their little souls.
if you would not have said it was a bird - i would have never guessed!
sorry for you loss?
Well, His eye is on the sparrow - I reckon that goes for Barn Swallows as well. It was just time for this little baby to fly home.
So sorry for your loss. Better luck next time!
OK this may be alittle too profound for a baby bird eulogy but read Revelation 5:13. Maybe Housey and those like him will join us in singing praises to Christ one day? I think CS Lewis may have been on to something when he had beavers and badgers talking. RIP Housey.
Housey’s in a better place. gb
I am sorry to hear about Housey. He is in a better place now and i hope the family is doing ok with your loss.
I’m so sorry to hear about Housey.
not kidding when I say these comments have just brightened my day….not so much sad about the bird, but you guys are funny as heck!!!!!
mike
Thank God there are still parents out there willing to show even the smallest creatures mercy. Our kids need to know that love and kindness are still important values to keep.
