And the Neighbors Rejoiced – “Lazy Part 2

retro-christmas-lights1.jpgSo as some of you read, I get really lazy when it comes to taking down the Christmas lights off of my house. Im good about doing it on the inside, but the outside shows how lazy I really am.

So a mere 54 days after Christmas, I finally took down the Christmas lights off of the house. And my neighborhood rejoiced. I think the amazing thing in this whole process is counting up the many excuses that I can come up with that keep me from doing, what when its all said and done, took 45 min to complete.

Some of the excuses Im best known for include… “the wind is blowing too hard from the North today”. “Its too cold.” “I need a new ladder first.” or my personal favorite…. “I need to spend time with my family today.” When all else fails, you can really make yourself feel good by spending time with your family and put off work at the same time. So there you have it…this concludes the saga of the Shaffer house Christmas celebration. What started the day after thanksgiving, finally came to a close the third week of Feb.

Happy Holidays.

  1. It’s funny that you should mention Christmas decorations….

Don’t feel bad or be too hard on yourself. Why just this morning, honest to goodness, I watched a lady haul out her Christmas tree to the curb for the trash man to pick up with tinsel still clinging to it’s fake branches. See…you’re not the only one.

Last year we had this giant wreath over our fireplace until about mid May. I had actually stopped noticing the thing was hanging there, looming, until a friend pointed it out.

  2. I love all things Christmas, the lights, the atmosphere, the music, the meaning, the movies. And I would love for the outside of my house to be decorated with sparkley lights but I absolutely refuse to put up anything until I’m married and have a husband to take them down. That will be one of the requirement.

Will put up/take down Christmas lights- check

  3. Uh, well, we still have ours in the palm trees out front. There they will stay until I feel like taking them down. I don’t have that “it’s too cold” excuse. Hmm, no, it’s mostly in the high 70’s and 80’s every single day here. Bet our neighbors hate us. Oh well. What’s another week or two at this point?

  4. While driving home last night after taken my granddaughter to dance class, we passed a house that still had there lights up and they were lit up. So, you were not the only one procrastinating.

Anyway, glad to hear you finally got around to taking them down.

  5. I personally love the “I need to spend time with my family” excuse. That could serve to put off so many tasks around the house that I don’t want to do.

  6. Just wait for a few more years and the stores will keep pushing the retail season earlier and earlier and we can have Christmas all year. Hey! Then you will only have to change the lights when you or your wife want a different kind or color.

  7. We waited this year to put ours up till the last minute. We took it all down quickly too. We don’t really have a good place to put lights up outside, so we were blessed with not leaving them up. LOL
Have a best blessed day! Prayers for the OK Winterfest tonight.

  8. “The wind is blowing too hard from the North today” is pretty much amazing. I’m going to use that for completely unrelated excuses.
