Fresno Rescue Mission

This morning we had the amazing privilege of visiting the Fresno Rescue Mission and sharing a little time with the guys that were there.   We heard a couple heart-breaking testimonies and shared a couple songs.  This is an amazing example of the concept of ‘Loving Well’ being lived out in a city.

Thank you for allowing us to share some time with you today.  You ministered to us all more than you know.

Bart I’m so blessed you ministered at the Fresno Rescue Mission today … I know God blessed you far beyond what you saw coming; same thing happened to me! I was there in mid-summer, and MAN it’s hot in central Fresno outside in June!! My keyboard about melted; ha! But so did my heart; I was afraid at first to be there at first … then I didn’t want to go home. God was with us, before us and around us, and He blessed every moment. My praise team sang/played a small set in an all-day event where we just loved on the crowd. They gave me SO much more than I gave them … the blessing of reaching out, and how grateful and loving each person was!! The staff there ROCKS; hearts of gold, big as Caifornia and so giving …. all in the name of Jesus! Thank you for coming to Calif., thank you for doing all you do in the name of Christ … blessings, brother!! I just had surgery and I”m sorry I could not come tonight; I’ll be there next year!!

It was truly a blessing to have you at the Fresno Rescue Mission today. The men were surprised and you gave them the gift of your time and your attention as you listened to their stories. Thank you for inviting them to the concert tonight. Your message of loving well is one that coincides with what we are trying to do at the Mission. Love through Christ. God sent you as a gift to us, and we appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to minister to us. You loved us well today! To God be the glory.

I told my mom today at lunch about when you tell the people at the concert that if they don’t this song, they need to go to church more! She thought that was great! She is listening to your Hymed Again CD in her car!

Thanks for hangin’ out with the guys at the FRM…they were blessed to know that, even the “Stars” can take some time to visit with them. As they shared their stories, it just means others will listen and know that their stories matter to people of the Kindom.

Thanks for blessing us with your pressence and may God conitune to bless your ministry!

Thank you so much for coming to the Fresno Rescue Mission to bless and be blessed. Being the director for the Academy Rehab Program for Men at the FRM, I am blessed every day to be a part of what God is doing to transform lives and restore families. That is what keeps me coming back. When they get here, they are tore up and tore down. They come through the door feeling like failures, losers and unwanted. Then they experience the love of God and that there are people here that really care about them. Your presence here re-enforced that they they matter. Coming to work this moring, the 8 that attended the concert were abuzz on how they were treated like VIP’s. They said wearing their Fresno Rescue Mission shirts was an honor and not a point of shame. One of our new men who just received a Bible from us as a reward for being a “Rising Star” had it signed by the whole band. He will cherish that Bible for the rest of his life. You gave these men an experience they will never forget. Thank you for your ministry “to the least of these” and may the Lord Jesus continue to bless you and yours.

I am the mother of one of the guys that went to the Mercy Me concert, brandon, and i want to first thank the Lord for the miracle he has performed in my sons life and second thank the Fresno Rescue Mission for without the mission Brandon would probably be in prison right now, and lastly thank you, the members of Mercy Me!! my son grew up with his mother (me) on drugs. since he was 18 he has been in and out of prison and until 2 and a half months ago on drugs. the Lord has lifted my son and filled him with a joy like Brandon has never felt!! he now sees a light at the end of the tunnel, he has a purpose in life he feels a peace and joy such as he never knew exsisted…i walked away from drugs 2 years ago after being addicted for 20 plus years..Brandon told me “mom youve done what seemed the impossible” last year. I told him i couldnt have done it without God. and i have now told him “youve done what seemed the impossible”, the reason we have been able to do it is “NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD”!! i visited with brandon a few days after the concert and the joy and excitement brandon got from your concert was still with him!! he was crying with joy while telling me everything from the time you came thru the doors at the mission till after the concert!! and as your band has been my favorite christian band since i walked away from drugs (your music helped me while i was going thru the hard time of temptations shortly after quitting drugs) i was so excited for him…i cried with him and you have no idea of the overwhelming joy and happiness i was feeling sitting there with my son listening to him describe the the ways in which the lord has changed his life!! the Lord has answered my prayers beyond anything i could have imagined for my son!!!! it’s nothing short of a miracle!! thank you for the experience my son will forever remember!! i could tell you so much of how God has blessed my son and myself…people that know brandon are amazed at the change in him…he has in a short time went from a man that was broke almost beyond repair to a man filled with happiness that shines like gold!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!!!!

My name is Clive Perring, and I’m a resident at the Fresno Rescue Mission’s inpatient Christian rehab program. This last Thursday, April 1st 2010, we had a surprise visit from two of the disc jockeys from KDUV, a local Christian radio station, and the band Mercy Me. When I sat down in our chapel and saw them show up I thought, “Oh great, a show” and was ready to be entertained. But they came to hear some of our testimonies (the men in the program) which was fine with me until the Director of our program, the Reverend Bud Searcy, called me up to give my own story. No one had informed me that I was there to do anything but sit and gape!
But God is awesome, and though I dislike public speaking and had nothing prepared to say. He propped me up on that stage and spoon-fed me my words. I stumbled down from there in a daze and really only came to, when two of the members of Mercy Me went up on stage to thank us and played “I can Only Imagine” for the whole church. It was cool to see others touched positively by all the pain and despair we had trekked through to get here, living evidence of the power of testimony.
So after noon they had to leave and we ate lunch and went about our workday here at the Mission. It came as a total shock to me around 4:30 that afternoon when I was told I’d be going to the giant concert Mercy Me was playing that night. I could fill up pages with how fun and cool the concert was, but most of all I just wanted to express heartfelt gratitude to all my brothers and sisters in Christ who made it possible. Through our God all things are truly possible.

My name is Stan Sheehan and I’m a resident at the Fresno Rescue Mission’s Christian rehabilitation program. It warmed my heart to be visited by the members of Mercy Me and the two disc jockeys from KDUV, our local Christian radio station. I couldn’t believe that they actually took time out of their busy touring schedule to come down here to the Fresno Rescue Mission. Even more surprising was that they came down not to talk to and play music for us, but instead they came to listen to our stories and our testimonies.
It was incredible getting to watch them perform an acoustic version of “I Can Only Imagine” right here, but after they’d listened to our stories and played for us here they gave all of us who testified VIP passes to see them play at the Savemart Center. It is so encouraging to us here to see our stories, which are comprised of so much pain and grief, be able to uplift and inspire belief in other Christians.
Also, when we went to see the concert, it was awesome to see how many other believers there are right here in Fresno and Clovis. I never expected to see so many people get together to praise and worship God (especially not around these parts!) In conclusion I just wanted to thank everyone who made this whole experience possible, and to let them know how positively affected I’ve been by it all.

My name is Brandon Johnson. On April 1, 2010 the Christian rock group, Mercy Me, showed up at the Fresno Rescue Mission, where I am in a discipleship program. They were in town for the “Rock and Worship Road Tour”. They decided to make The Mission one of their stops, while in town, to see where God is at work in Fresno, CA. When they arrived with 88.9 KDUV FM disk jockey’s they, to our surprise, wanted to hear our testimonies!
Sharing my experience with them was exciting because as Christians we need to see the work God is going in people’s lives as encouragement to continue the race and to know that we are to rely on God for all situations. It was awesome because we wanted to hear from them, but being humble men, they wanted to hear our stories. They said that our testimonies impacted their lives and so we’ve come full circle because they have an influence on my life musically, as one of my favorite praise bands!
Later on that night, we get a call that Mercy Me has offered us VIP passes to the concert that evening! So we get to the venue and we are allowed to pick our seats. It was a total blessing, and the concert was fantastic 10,000 believers in the same building was amazing, and the Lords presence was definitely there. Praise God for his incredible ways he works!!

    Dear Mercy Me and Family:

I just wanted to take the time and thank you for coming by and blessing the disciples at the Fresno Rescue Mission last Thursday. It was truly an experience that will not be forgotten and will be pondered with awe that is the essence of our God. Lasts Thursday’s events were unexpected and the entire day turned into a wonderful gift that has affected me deeply.
Earlier in the week I was asked if I would be willing to give my testimony on call. I agreed and had not thought of the situation I would be addressing. When I saw the news cameras there I thought to myself, “I hope I am not called to give the testimony.” I did not prepare for it because I wanted to speak from the heart. After I saw Jeremy and Cari approach the stage I knew something was up and at that point I was really hoping that my name would be overlooked. When Cari introduced Mercy Me and began to tell us that they were not here to entertain, but rather, to hear our stories all I can say is I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in the room. I heard in my mind that this is not about me because it is so much bigger than me and that if my name is called I need to step forward and follow through with my words.
After I gave my testimony a disciple informed me that some members of the band would like to borrow my guitar for a short moment. When Barry and Bart approached the stage I had an external pickup to set Barry up with the guitar, at that moment Barry thanked me for my words and expressed that they had touched him. This floored me! The music moved me! Bart’s prayer rocked me!
After this I was not expecting anything and was feeling overjoyed from the events that had taken place. When I heard that we had been invited to the concert all I could say was WOW! The concert was amazing and surreal. Your band is obviously a highly anointed group from your presence and teaching in the music. I could see from where I was sitting that Bart’s voice was still causing him strain, so I continued to pray for it throughout the set. I also noticed how moved He was at certain moments and in turn Bart and the band moved me. I can see that this band is sensitive and compassionate in spirit to the trials of God’s chosen people and mercy being my main spiritual gift; I can honestly say that the four of you live out your name.
I know that this day was for everybody involved, but through it all, especially Bart’s prayers at the Mission and after the concert rang a consistent tone with my story in my spirit, allowing me to feel God’s presence, love and adoration. It felt as though God was speaking directly to my heart and how that I am about to leave the Mission having completed most of my time and commitments here, this is exactly what I needed to close the door on my old existence and open the eternal flood gates for my Master and Friend, Jesus Christ Thank you once again Mercy Me for blessing me and my fellow disciples. God bless you.

    Sincerely,

    Caleb Rosado

As I was sitting in the town house meeting and they announced that there was a special guest I didn’t know who to expect. To my amazement it was Mercy Me!!! As they took the stage I was happy to hear them sing but, I was touched by their interest in what God was doing here at the Mission. Later that night we were blessed with being able to attend their concert and to see them fully perform was an awesome experience. What really began to touch my heart and minister to me was when the lead singer began to speak to the crowd about how God uses their music ministry to help the children around the world. I felt truly blessed to have had the experience of not only hearing Mercy Me and their music, but to see their heart for our loving God.

April 1, 2010 the house had a meeting here at the Fresno Rescue Mission. We opened up in prayer then the Academy Director Bud asked would anyone like to share a short testimony. I think after two brothers went up, I said what the heck. I’ve been here about two weeks and it’s been nothing but good and I felt God was tugging at my heart to say something. So up I went nervous and all. I said a few things about timing, not ours, Gods timing. After a few of us the group Mercy Me showed up. Here I was ready for some wonderful praise music. But because of their busy schedule they only sang one song. I was a little disappointed. I believe it was 2003 when I first heard the song (I Can Only Imagine) while doing time. When I paroled on our way home from a gate pick up, my family took me to eat, buy some clothes and I had my mom stop at the Fresno Bible House. So I could figure out who sang that song. Of course both my mom and sister knew exactly who it was and they bought me the C.D. So their music was nothing new to me. Anyhow getting ready to finish my workout, David the house manager said get ready you get to go and see Mercy Me in concert. A blessing in disguise I would call it. Because I went up there, and gave a few minutes the Lord blessed me with maybe 3 hours of beautiful praise music.

WOW! What an experience, God has been so good to me, praise him. During my 11 months here at the Rescue Mission I have been blessed in so many ways. God has opened my eyes and changed me from the inside out. My most memorable moments in the program were the appearance of Mercy Me here at the Mission. Just the day before God restored my relationship with my 21 year old daughter and a grandson who I have not seen since birth. I chose a negative lifestyle of drugs and running the streets over them. But God has restored my relationship with my daughter and for the first time I’m going to spend Easter with my family together. During Mercy Me’s appearance I had an opportunity to give my testimony to Mercy Me and other guests. It was very emotional for me because I know God restored that relationship with my daughter. But it gets even better, I had an opportunity to attend the Mercy Me concert that night, it was a blessing. I love God and because of that I can truly love myself, my family and others. Thank you Mercy Me for the inspirational messages that you bring.

    Sincerely,
    Jamie Garcia
