“Ask MercyMe” – Nate

Welcome to the first weekly installment of “Ask MercyMe”. We know that there are lots of people out there with lots of questions and we want to give you the opportunity to “Ask MercyMe” anything you want.Β Leave a question in the comments section and we promise to answer every last one of them by Friday.

This week it’s Nathan’s turn. Nathan plays bass in the band and writes in his bio:
I am a normal guy from Missouri that gets to play music with an exceptional group of guys that strive to honor God with everything we do. I love my family and enjoy playing music. If you want to know more about me you will have to catch me and ask!

So, there it is. What questions do you have for Nathan?

    Hey Nate!

Do you have kids? How many do you have? If you do, is it hard to balance being a dad and being on the road? How do you guys work that out?

  • Heidi

When did you put your faith in Christ? What is the biggest thing He changed about you?

Ok – so that was two questions. πŸ˜€

I was recently listening to the band on Coming Up To Breathe, specficially the bass since I play one too. I just wanted to know how you get that great sound out of the Fender Jazz? I’ve got a 1976 Jazz and can’t make it sound that fat yet punchy for the life of me.

I’m a fellow Missourian. Where do you hail from, and how did you hook up with the MM guys?

I know your wife is Robby’s sister so that kind of answers the how you met her but when did you meet her and realize that she was the one?

What kind of jobs did you have prior to MM?

  • Karen

Have you guys ever consider the idea of a girl in the band??

I wish ya’ll would come out with a window decal for my car that I could buy at a concert or on the website were your tshirts are sold. Something like “Mercy Me” in an arch w/ “Glorifying God” under that.
Are you still adding blogs? http://allthatismylife.blogspot.com

Hey Nathan…..I hate to waste this question here, but I don’t know where else to ask it….lol:

Do you know if there is any way to buy a copy of the video of 3:42 am that some of us mm fans sent in and was played at the Coming up to Breathe concert last year?? ( And BTW, it was really COOL to see my cute kidlet and nieces and nephews on the large screen at the Erie PA concert…..)

  • Ezekiel Lopez

Who’s the youngest in the band?

  • Sandi

I’ve been wanting to ask this for a while but wasn’t sure how nor did I want it to come out in a bad or wrong way…but here it goes. What’s the easiest/best way to get the chance to me ya’ll? I’ve wanted to meet ya for the past 3-4 years (9 concerts)and thank you for what your music has meant to me, but everytime I’m told that you guys left immediately after the show. The last show I went to in Modesto, CA, we were told that you guys were going to come out and sign autographs…my friend and I waited for two hours and then they said that they just got word that MM left over an hour before. πŸ™ So…what’s the best way to meet one of the greatest Christian bands around? πŸ™‚

How hard is it to have a sister WAY cooler than you are? πŸ˜› hehehe

Nathan, MercyMe has proven to my son that “Christian” music can be awesome and relevant in our lives. Does the band ever play small venues anymore? My favorite MM song is “Spoken For”. God bless you all for your joyous message!

  • Brenda

Hey Nate, How do you manage being on the road soooo much and family time, time for God and time for you and time for the band etc…? You all are awsome !!! Just got back to Florida from TN ( man it cold up there) and i listened to “all that is within me” for hours LOL!!! thanks and GOd Bless

I am such a fan of the band and am inspired by each and every song. Recently I saw a small informal Mercy Me concert on some channel;goodness, I am sory that I cant remember which channel. In this concert they talked about writing and then sang the sweetest song that apparently was written on the fly about the 10 commandmwents that was for children. I have tried to find the lyrics to that somewhere and have not been able to. Is there a chance that I could get the lyrics and even just the chorus to that song as it is a great teaching tool for children and adults alike to remember the 10 commandments.

Sorry such a long e mail but I truly appreciate your help.

I heard you are also in another band that is the rocktasticist rock band to ever rock a rock. Is this accurate?

  • Sandi

To Karen Levy ~ I totally know what song you’re talking about…they sang that at my very first MM concert a few years ago. I had commented on that on a prior blog…I would to hear it again…it was pretty awesome!

  • mcwesty

With your schedules how and when do you find time to spend time in the word. Also how have you been able to stand firm in your faith and love for God with all the trials you have all had over the years. It is a struggle.

Hey, Nathan, Kewpie Greeting to you, my friend and fellow Kewpie!

I’m glad to hear y’all are doing well.
How’s Amanda and children? Fine, I hope.

Is there anywhere I can get a copy of the Ten Commandments song? I can’t find it!

Let me know the next time you are coming to Tulsa. We are gonna have to get together. My hubby/kids are wanting to get together with you and the fam sometime . . .

  • Becky Bauer

Mine isn’t so much a question but a comment.

I didn’t start getting close to Christ until maybe a year or so ago. I believe it was the music from MM and so many others like yourselves that got me started, and the church I started to go to has shown me it is a relief to let go and let God in. Keep up the good work through Christ and song and God Bless you all.

    Thanks Becky

Hi Guys! I am a big fun of you!! I have all your cds, and a dvd. You are the best Christian band ever! I thank God for the gift He gave you. I’m from Peru, live here in California. I’m going to the concert in Santa Barbara, I would love to see you guys backstage. How could I get a pass?
    Thank you
    love in Christ

While listening to the XM station called The Message….I was moved by a touching song that included verses of ‘I Can Only Imagine’, unfortunately it did not show the name of the song, but it was a song that led directly into and ended with ‘I Can Only Imagine’. I am on a mad hunt to find out the name of that compilation and if it is on an album.

Hey Nate, When will you guys be back in the Williamsport, MD area? Caught you all in York PA and at Gateway Ministries in Williamsport. You’re awsome. Love that I can bring my 10 and 11 year olds to see you guys. It’s so wonderful to have good Christian rolemodels for them.

  • Tina Monn

Hey Nate, Ever heard of The Maryland Theater in Hagerstown MD? It’s a great historic theater where the Maryland Symphony Orchestra plays. Great venue hint, hint.

  • Heidi

    Hey Nate…

Not that I’m impatient or anything. As if! But, when do we get the answers? Bet we have to wait till tomorrow huh?

Alright well — off to do some more things to get me all smart and stuff.

I would like to know where to get a copy of the ten commandments song? Thanks so much

    Hello to you All,

Not sure which is the best way to reach you, but I am trying to figure out how we can get permission from you all to use a song or two in a video clip that may be posted on u-tube, but may also be played on local airtime. I tried to reach your manager? But was unsuccessfull. The video clip will be to raise awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (the deadly disease that effects little boys). We are running the Seattle Rock and Run Marathon with “Run For Our Sons” and our team is Team Finn. We are local runners that are running for local boys that are afflicted, namely one in particular Finn. This big run is happening the end of June. We are hoping to take clips from the marathon, of the ones running for these little dudes, and mesh it into a video with photos of some of the local boys with Duchenne. Is this something that we could do with your music? We wouldn’t need an answer by June (the marathon is in June) we will be working on the editing afterwards for quite some time…..

Please let me know who I should talk to and how to reach them. I really appreciate your time. Why did we request your music…..well lets just say that it is my sons favorite (he’s only 3 but we have to play “I can only Imagine” over and over again for him every day….its his song. He gets on his rock out guitar and sings it out loud!)

Much thanks and love to you,
    Kat Lemieux-Cooney

HI, I was so disappointed when I found out Mercy Me wasn’t going to be playing with Third Day last night at DTE Energy Music Theater in Michigan. I was so excited to see you. I didn’t hear why you all didn’t play the gig. Can someone elighten your fans as to why you didn’t play?

How do I get permission to use one of your songs? I will write a letter describing its use.

  • Karla Poth

I would like to stream some of your music videos as part of a church worship service. How do I obtain permission to do so?

  • Debbie Jones Rose Shope

As others have asked on here, I too am wondering how to get permission to use your songs on a memorial dedicated to my brother in law? I also think my unbelieving friends would benefit from hearing them! I don’t see the answers to their questions. Where would I get an answer? Thank you! God bless you all for all you do!!
